Couple Coaching in Miami: What Happens, and What It Costs

For two people who run a household well and have not had a real conversation in months. Here is what the first call is, what a session is, what it costs, and how to book it.

Two chairs facing each other in a warm Miami office before a session begins

I am Matthew Hoelscher. I coach couples from an office at 12755 SW 116th Terrace in Kendall, and by video throughout Florida and in all 50 states and DC. Everything below is what you would otherwise have to call and ask me.

I am a coach with an ICF PCC credential. I am not licensed, I do not diagnose anyone, and there are situations I hand to a licensed professional instead of taking your money. Those are listed further down, before the prices, on purpose.

The free 25 minute call

Before anybody pays me anything, we talk for 25 minutes. It is free, it is for people who have never worked with me, and its only job is to find out whether I am the right person for what is happening in your house.

You do not both need to be on it. A good share of these calls happen from a parked car, because it is the only place nobody can hear. That is normal and I have never once thought less of somebody for it.

Nobody books on the call. You decide afterward.

The free 25 minutes

  1. You tell me what is happening, in whatever order it comes out

  2. I ask how long it has been true and what changed right before it started

  3. I tell you plainly whether this is coaching work or belongs with a licensed professional

  4. If it is coaching work, I tell you what the first session would go after

  5. You decide later, at home, with no follow up sales call from me

What the first session is like

Two chairs, close enough that you have to look at each other, and me. No clipboard, no intake battery, no forms to fill in the car.

It is not history taking. I am not walking you through your childhoods for 3 weeks before we touch anything live. I want what is actually happening this month, in your kitchen.

I interrupt. You should know that going in. When one of you starts building a case, I will stop you, because the case is the problem. Nobody in a marriage has ever been argued into feeling closer.

You leave with one thing to do before we speak again, and it is small on purpose. One specific conversation, or one behavior you stop for a week to see what fills the gap. One thing done is worth 6 things intended.

What I use in the room

Three things, constantly, and I name them out loud so you know what is happening when it happens.

What I am running

  • The 8 Stages

Marriages come apart in a recognizable order. Knowing which stage you are standing in tells us what the first move is, and stops us doing stage 5 work on a stage 1 problem.

  • EC3

Connect, Correct, Create. Connect first, because nothing lands between two people who are braced. Correct the pattern that is actually running. Then create what you want instead, on purpose.

  • The Marriage Trap

The set of assumptions you both signed without reading, mostly inherited from the houses you grew up in. Most couples are arguing over clauses neither of them agreed to out loud.

The fourth thing is the parent marriage, which is less a framework than a description of the marriage most of my clients are in: two competent adults running a household with real efficiency and almost no contact with each other.

Who this is for, and who it is not for

This is for couples who are disconnected, stuck in the same argument, or getting deliberate before anything breaks. Dating, engaged, married, small children, empty nest. Betrayal is coaching work in my practice and I handle it constantly.

It is not for everyone, and I would rather say so here than after you have paid. I do not take cases involving an active addiction or domestic violence, and I do not take work that needs a diagnosis or treatment. That belongs with a licensed professional, and I will say so on the first call and point you somewhere useful. If you want the honest comparison, it is in marriage coaching compared with the clinical route. If you want to check whether you are the kind of couple I take, that is who I actually work with.

I am also the wrong call if you want me to fix your spouse while you observe.

What it costs

Published here so you do not have to ask for it. Hunting for a price is its own kind of stress and you have enough of that already.

Rates

50 minutes: $175

90 minutes: $315

180 minute intensive: $630

3 session package: $700

First 25 minute call: free, for first timers

I am self pay only. I do not bill insurance, because I do not diagnose anyone and there is no code to submit. Video and office formats and the full list are on what marriage coaching costs in Miami.

Most couples take the 3 session package. It exists because the most common way this work stalls is a couple booking one session, feeling something move, and never booking the second. Three sessions commits both of you to seeing the first change through to the point where you can actually feel it.

How to book

One step. Book the free 25 minute call or call 305.986.2905. It costs nothing, it is for first timers, and if what you describe belongs with a licensed professional I will tell you on that call.

Questions couples ask

What does a session cost?

50 minutes is $175, 90 minutes is $315, and the 180 minute intensive is $630. The 3 session package is $700. The first 25 minute call is free for first timers.

Do we have to come to the Kendall office?

No. I work by video throughout Florida and in all 50 states and DC. For parents of small children that is frequently the only format that actually happens week after week.

Can I come without my partner?

Yes. Plenty of people start alone, because we look at your half of the pattern, which is the only half you control. What I will not do is coach you into tactics for managing your partner.

Is there homework?

Yes, and it is not worksheets. Usually one specific conversation with one specific person, or one behavior you are going to stop for a week to see what fills the gap. I keep it small, because nobody with young children has bandwidth for a program.

What if coaching is not the right fit for us?

I will say so on the free call. Active addiction, domestic violence, and anything that needs a diagnosis belong with a licensed professional, and I refer those out rather than take the booking.
