Treat Yourself like the Goddess You Are This Valentine’s Day! Wood window shutter used as a bathtub tray with tea, books, handles, and flowers

Any big plans for Valentine’s Day?

Ladies, you do so much for everybody else. Whether you are married, single or somewhere in-between, you deserve you treat yourself, now and then. While Cupid’s Day is usually not considered the time for self-reflection (in fact, many people out there absolutely loathe it), it may just be the best time for you to honor “you.”

Try and forget about the baggage that comes with V-Day and reframe it as a day for you and your loved ones. Now, treating yourself does not necessarily have to break the bank. Read on to explore a variety of ways you can pamper yourself at home!

Bath

Let’s start with a good soak or scrub.

CVS has inexpensive bath bombs that come in a variety of colors and scents. Buy two or three at a time, so you can use one now and save one for a later day. Be sure to clean out the tub in advance, or do a quick fill-up and rinse-out. Do this with soothing music in the background to get you in the right state of mind. Light a few candles left from the holidays or a simple taper. Turn off or dim the lights. Settle in for a good soak and unwind. It may help to think of a pink bubble surrounding you!

Remember, this is “you” time, so leave the phone outside of the bathroom. If there is an emergency, your husband can handle it!

Shower

If you don’t have a bathtub, that’s no problem. Instead, simply gather a few ingredients for the ultimate shower!

First, go to your kitchen and see if you have coffee grounds or salt. Throw them in a bowl and mix in whichever oil you have handy (coconut is very popular). In a separate bowl, pour a least a cup of sugar.

Head into the bathroom, turn on the shower and let it run until the mirror fogs up. Step into the steam and let it open your pores. Then, it’s time to rub the coffee/salt mix into your skin with gusto. The idea is to remove dead skin and feel invigorated. The oil ensures that your skin will not dry out.

After you’re finished with the coffee exfoliation, rinse yourself off and grab the sugar bowl. While the salt and coffee scrub is perfect for your body, put a little sweetness in your step by rubbing your skin with the sugar. As with the exfoliation, take as much time as you need to pamper the hardest working parts of your body.

Music

This method of relaxation is perfect after your bath or shower.

Tidy up an area in your bedroom or living room. You may already have the soothing spa music streaming from your bath or shower. Turn it up a little higher or find another playlist/station you love.

Your family, both two-and four-legged members, can join in. Take turns playing songs! You may be surprised at your loved ones’ choices. Even if a few Baby Shark-esque tunes make it into the rotation, it will still be a fun time for all. On the other hand, if you want some alone time, use headphones. Just don’t forget to let loose!

Cook

It is an unspoken rule that Valentine’s Day calories do not count. Trust me, I’m a marriage coach and an expert in these matters!

Give yourself a working budget to buy the ingredients you need. If you usually buy generic, treat yourself by opting for brand names. If you are on Keto or typically have reduced carbs or fat, one night will not undo all your hard work.

Walk and down the supermarket aisles and put whatever you need in your basket. Again, you aren’t counting calories today. You can make your family’s easiest dinner and pick your favorite treat for dessert. Save on labor by paying the kids a dollar to put everything away. Then pour a glass a wine and play some of your favorite songs.

Order-in

Of course, who wants to cook on Valentine’s Day?

On the day dedicated to love, most book their restaurants way in advance. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying your favorite meal prepared by somebody else.

Rather than going to the restaurant and waiting for a table (if you can even get one), use UberEATS or another meal-delivery service. There may be a wait, so be prepared by planning something spontaneous. In the meantime, spread a blanket out in the living room. Have a little adventure with an indoor picnic or place scarves over lamps for a bohemian look. You can keep the little ones busy by asking them to color placemats (just like they would in a real restaurant). Another option is to search YouTube for nature loops. Let the kids or your spouse choose the nature background for your meal. Like playing songs, everyone can have a turn to display their favorites.

Breathe

Sometimes the greatest treat of all is doing absolutely nothing.

After Valentine’s Day at school, the kids will likely have had plenty of sugar and will be eager for a quiet night. And your spouse just wants you to be happy. If it works better for you to have a quiet night in with nothing special planned, enjoy it!

You can do all these activities by yourself or with your loved ones. The point is to give yourself a treat and honor all that you are. The world needs you at your best to be the goddess you are, giving others hope and confidence.
